Dutch Settlement Elementary

Information August 30

Dear Families,
We hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the start of a new school year. In a news conference, the province shared the details for a safe return Back to School as we continue to live with COVID-19.  Learn more here https://novascotia.ca/backtoschool.
What to Expect
This year, the daily routine will be similar to previous school years before COVID-19. Subjects such as music, physical education and instrumental music will be delivered much as they have in the past. Principals can invite visitors back into schools with the requirement visitors follow all public health measures.
To ensure schools are as safe as possible, core public health measures will remain in place. These include:
• frequent hand washing and sanitizing;
• cleaning of high-touch surfaces; and,
• staying home if you are feeling sick.
As an additional layer of safety, all students, staff, and visitors will be required to wear masks inside schools to start the school year. Masks are mandatory on school buses. Schools will transition away from mandatory masks once the province reaches Phase 5 of its re-opening plan.
Information on opening day processes will be sent Thursday, September 2. Due to ongoing new registrations class lists are being finalized and will be posted on the main doors of the school at 12:00 noon on Thursday.
If you have any questions please call 902 883 3000. This information will also be posted on the school’s website at https://dts.hrce.ca/
My apologies to those who have been trying to contact us by phone but unfortunately our phone systems are not working. We are in the process of having that fixed.
Pre-primary and primary parents will receive an additional message this evening.
From the school staff, and myself Welcome back!
