Dutch Settlement Elementary

A message from Principal Terry Barro

Hello Students and Families of Dutch Settlement Elementary School

I am Terry Barro your new principal. First of all, let me say that I hope everyone is healthy and staying safe.  I am very excited to be the principal of this wonderful school! I have heard so many positive comments about the students, staff, families and the Dutch Settlement community and I am looking forward to working with all of you. I would like to also wish, your former principal, Mrs. Heather Killen, all the best in her retirement. I know she will be greatly missed.

Family life has certainly been different in the last few weeks. Covid-19 is a virus that has us practicing social distancing and limiting our abilities to leave our homes. I would like to assure you that we will work through this together the best we can. Even though the staff at Dutch Settlement and I are working remotely, we will do our best to support our students and help further their education. Remote education is uncharted territory, but I am confident with your support and collaboration, we can make this work.

Recently you have been contacted by your child’s teacher and you are aware that our new way of doing school begins this Wednesday, April 8. Your child’s teacher will be providing learning opportunities online for the duration that we are away from school.

I want to assure you that the teachers, staff and I are here to help you as we work together to support students and learning at home. If you have any questions please reach out and we will respond as soon as we are able.

I encourage all of us to be patient during this challenging time as we navigate this new form of learning. If we all work together and support one another, the transition will be more successful for everyone.

Student learning is the top priority. There will be many unknowns as we move forward on this learning journey together. However, I feel extremely confident with the efforts and hard work of all staff at Dutch developing the learning continuity plan.  Your children are in very good hands. Also, I assure you that I will reach out to families and keep you updated with any new information that may arise.

I am very much looking forward to the day we can finally meet face to face. If I can be of any help supporting your family my contact information is below and can always be found on the schools web site.

Until then stay safe, healthy and enjoy the new learning opportunity.

Sincerely,

Terry Barro
